Knob And Tube Removal And Remediation

What is Knob And Tube Wiring?

You will not see any knob and tube wiring in newer homes. If your home was built pre-1950, take a look in your basement as you likely have knob and tube wiring. The images above are examples of what knob and tube wiring looks like. Knob and tube wiring does not have any ground wires, because of this the risk of fire and shocks is much greater. The rubber insulation on the wire breaks down over time and becomes very brittle which is frequently the reason for overheating.
